Tragic Accident Claims Life of Highway 97 Driver on Drought Hill

Tragedy struck Peachland Wednesday evening when a single vehicle crash on Highway 97 tragically took the life of the driver of a Toyota Corolla. The portion of highway was closed for more than eight hours while police investigated the scene.

Reports indicate that the Toyota was northbound when it crossed into the center lane and crashed head-on into an oncoming tractor trailer. Const. Mike Della-Paolera stated that at this time, they are uncertain as to what caused this accident and they believe that the driver of the tractor trailer attempted to stop before impact.

Adding to this tragedy is reports that there may have been a third vehicle involved which left the scene after striking the Corolla after it had already been impacted by the semi-truck. That third vehicle is described as being a black Dodge Caravan. West Kelowna RCMP has asked for any assistance from anyone who might have seen or has dashcam footage relevant to the investigation, to please contact them at 250-768-2880.
