Meeples and Milkshakes Board Game Café, a beloved establishment in downtown Penticton, will be permanently closing its doors. The café, which opened its doors on Westminster Avenue in 2020, offered a unique experience for board game enthusiasts to gather, enjoy delicious milkshakes, and play their favorite games.

Alongside a food and dessert menu, customers could purchase candies, popcorn, and other treats to enjoy while playing. The café quickly gained popularity among locals, especially on weekends, and developed a loyal following of customers who enjoyed playing games like Dungeon and Dragons.

Unfortunately, the owners, Cheryl and Jim Roepcke, have made the difficult decision to close the café due to financial challenges. In a heartfelt Facebook post, they expressed their sadness over this decision and how fulfilling it was to bring their dream of Meeples and Milkshakes to life.

The announcement of the café’s closure has sparked an outpouring of comments from disappointed customers, sharing how much they will miss the café and the memories they made there. Many have praised the café’s milkshakes, claiming they were the best in town, and expressed their sadness at losing their regular hangout spot.

In the days leading up to its closure on January 14, the Roepckes are encouraging customers to visit the café one last time to enjoy a milkshake and a game. After the closure, they will be selling the remaining inventory of board games on their website, meeples.ca.

The closure of Meeples and Milkshakes Board Game Café is certainly a loss for the Penticton community, but the café will leave behind cherished memories and a reminder of the joy that board games bring to people’s lives.
