A tragic incident occurred when a helicopter that was traveling from Calgary, Alberta to Sicamous, British Columbia crashed in Glacier National Park. The helicopter, which was carrying only the pilot, went missing on Friday evening. However, it has been confirmed that the pilot was found deceased inside the aircraft.
After the helicopter activated its emergency locator transponder, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) detected the signal around 7 p.m. The Revelstoke RCMP was notified and collaborated with the Revelstoke Search and Rescue team to locate the aircraft. Unfortunately, poor visibility caused by fog and snowfall hindered their efforts until Sunday when the helicopter was finally discovered.
The RCMP will be working alongside the Transportation Safety Board and the BC Coroners Service to investigate the cause of the accident.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that pilots face in their line of work. Our thoughts go out to the pilot’s family and friends during this difficult time.
